Staring At The Sun

Last night I went to the screening of my good friend Olivia Wyatt's new documentary on Ethiopian Music Staring At The Sun, produced by Sublime Frequencies. It was astonishing. Between the music she captured and the visuals of the clothing and landscape, the movie was a psychedelic journey. She blended traditional tribal ceremonies with contemporary pop african music and footage from television broadcasts she would see in various places. The result was a seamless depiction of both the background and culture of Ethiopia and the western influence on it. Needless to say, I personally was totally inspired.
