Photographs taken by Andy Warhol as displayed at the Brooklyn Museum until September 12th, 2010 Posthumously, Andy Warhol may be having the best week ever. Perhaps the most recognizable visual artist in the world, two retrospectives of his life happened to be released last week. The Autobiography and Sex Life of Andy Warhol by John Wilcock and re-issued by Trela Media, contains interviews from Warhol's associates and friends -- all personal, professional, infamous and famous. This edition of Sex Life corrects some information once considered to be true. What is certainly not contested, is Warhol's obsession with celebrity and popular culture. Almost everyone in the fashion industry has an additional hustle. Mark Suppes, a freelance web developer for the luxury brand Gucci, moonlights as Nuclear scientist in his spare time. Suppes job as scientist is more than the extra cash, he wants to create cheap, clean energy. Mark Suppes pictured above in his warehouse located on Park Ave. Image courtesy of BBC News Suppes lab is located in a warehouse on a non-descript block in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn and suprisingly, his work in combining atoms to create energy is totally legal, as his methods do not include radioactive materials. Scientists have been working on creating fusion reactors since the 50s. We don't know how close Suppes is in completing his goal and...
Last night I went to the screening of my good friend Olivia Wyatt's new documentary on Ethiopian Music Staring At The Sun, produced by Sublime Frequencies. It was astonishing. Between the music she captured and the visuals of the clothing and landscape, the movie was a psychedelic journey. She blended traditional tribal ceremonies with contemporary pop african music and footage from television broadcasts she would see in various places. The result was a seamless depiction of both the background and culture of Ethiopia and the western influence on it. Needless to say, I personally was totally inspired.

The Guggenheim is on the hunt for high concept, groundbreaking video art. In collaboration with YouTube, digital artists can submit videos to The Guggenheim's Play channel. A group of 20 artists will be selected by a jury for The Guggenheim's Biennial in Creative Video exhibition this fall.
Director Richard Armstrong encourages innovative submissions that are personal yet globally significant. This might change the direction of the user generated site, which is arguably a black hole of randomness. YouTube and The Guggenheim bridges the high, low, curated and organic.
Submissions close July 31st. Winners will display their work in NYC in October with simultaneous presentations in Berlin, Bilbao, Venice. "Anyone can play", but I think we already have a winner.
